Scripture Challenge

Trail Life challenges every Trailman to memorize prescribed Scripture. Here's PA-1997's plan for making steady progress, all year long.

PA-1997 uses the King James Version (KJV) for Scripture memorization.

Choose Practice Memorize Track & Recite

Boys choose a passage from their level, practice it primarily at home, mark their progress in Trail Life Connect, and recite completed passages to a parent, the Chaplain, or an approved troop leader according to the troop's plan.

PA-1997's plan

Trail Life provides the prescribed passages and the Trail Life Connect tracking system. PA-1997 is adding a reasonable local pace on top of that.

Every Woodlands Trail level

Fox, Hawk, and Mountain Lion each have 7 prescribed passages. PA-1997's goal is 4 during one year at that level and the remaining 3 during the other — boys may go faster if they'd like. This pacing is a PA-1997 local plan, not a Trail Life national requirement.

Practice happens at home

Leaders and the Chaplain are here to explain why the passages matter, encourage the boys, answer questions, hear recitations, verify completion, and celebrate progress — not to run a weekly classroom drill.

Trail Life Connect

The official record of every Trailman's progress.

What Trail Life Connect is for

Trailmen select the passage they're currently memorizing, update its status, and mark it complete. Troop leaders verify completion there. It remains the one official record — PA-1997 isn't keeping a separate tracking system.

Think you've got it? Come ready to recite it!

When a Trailman believes he's memorized a passage, a parent, the Chaplain, or an approved troop leader can hear his recitation according to the troop's plan. Once verified, leaders confirm it complete in Trail Life Connect.
